Release date June 29th 2018

Bushiroad’s Dragoborne TCG’s latest set, Surge of Titans will be released this coming June 29th, 2018. The set will feature cards from all five colors and furthers tribal deck synergies such as dragons, angels, elves, demons, goblins and more.

Each booster pack consists of 8 cards, one of which should be either a rare or higher grade. There will be 80 cards total (RR: 10 / R:20 / U:20 / C:30) along with 5 secret cards. Additionally, there will be holocards randomly inserted in the booster packs.

A new mechanic will also be introduced in set 4: “Overflow”. From what I have been able to gather, it sounds like this new mechanic will allow creatures to cause additional damage to a defender creature your opponent controls if blocked by multiple defenders. On a surface level, this mechanic seems to be another homage to Magic: the Gathering, this time in the form of a “Trample” style effect. Though, in the case of Dragoborne, it has not been confirmed if the additional damage dealt by Overflow can penetrate a Fort’s Dragoshield to hit the defenders stationed within.

The overall flavor and setting of the booster art seem to give off a sort of Mirrodin or Phyrexian vibe of high fantasy versus sci-fi technology which was foreshadowed in the previous set: Gears of Apocalypse. Personally, I found this whole premise to be fascinating, as it mixes up conventions of both genres to produce a fairly fun and interesting dynamic. Although several games have covered this type of Deus-Ex Machina narrative in the past, I am quite curious what direction Bushiroad will be taking their universe. While I am no expert on Dragoborne lore, I am finding the new elements added to the universe with each expansion set to be promising and worthy of exploring based on story prospects alone.

The C7 team will certainly be picking up a booster box for this set in the near future to see how far the series has progressed from the first set. Feel free to let us know what you think of this release in comments below!
